Everyone knows about cholesterol. Good cholesterol, bad cholesterol, high cholesterol foods and so on. But triglycerides? Finding answers to the question of how to lower  your triglycerides usually starts with another question. What are triglycerides?

Most people think that fat is bad for you. But, this isn't true at all. Some fats are bad for you and some fats are good for you. Triglycerides are a form of fat and they’re one of the ones that are bad for you.

There’s all sorts of medical explanations about what they are, but lets simplify it down for you. Triglycerides are a form of fat that's found in your blood. They get in your blood from what you eat.

Triglycerides are also formed in the body from the fats in the food you eat. This takes place while your food is being digested. Not all triglycerides are fat based, some can be formed from carbohydrates as well.

So, your diet DOES make an impact, but there are other factors including genetics and hormones ... and I'll get to those in a second with some simple solutions.

NOTE: Your goal is to create a healthy lipid profile and that ALSO includes improving your HDL/LDL ratios, in addition to lowering your "total" cholesterol and triglycerides (see below).

  1. Exercise
    All you need is 20-30 minutes of "something", 3-4x a week. Walking is great... lifting weights, swimming, playing sports, etc. are all very helpful. Pick something fun and stick to it. Be consistent!
  2. Lose Weight/Belly Fat
    More importantly, losing BELLY fat will dramatically improve your cholesterol levels, triglycerides and HDL/LDL ratio. Eat healthier, exercise more and take safe fat-burning supplements to help quickly erase stubborn belly fat.
  3. Eat "Better" Fats
    First thing you must do is reduce or eliminate bad fats such as: "Trans Fatty Acids". Read the food labels and avoid anything with "hydrogenated" oils, shortenings, margarine and most baked/fried goods.

    Second, eat more healthy fats such as nuts, seeds, fish oils (Omega 3 fatty-acids), olive, avocado and other "natural fats" that are NOT heated.

    This is so simple and has so many benefits. First, you can do so by having more fruits and vegetables... nuts and whole-grains as well.

    Second, you can easily add in special fiber supplements through out the day. It's simple, easy and convenient. It also helps with fat loss, in addition to improving cholesterol levels and triglycerides.
  6. Don't Smoke!
    Umm... come on people, there's NOTHING good about smoking and when it comes to the heart. It lowers your good HDL and increases your bad LDL at the same time. The exact opposite of what you want to do. NOT GOOD... Stop it!!!
